Sermoneta Courses

Each summer, the FONDAZIONE CAMPUS INTERNAZIONALE DI MUSICA organizes courses in instrumental profiency and musical interpretation for young musicians from all over the world. Given by teachers of the highest calibre, these take place in the Caetani Castle in Sermoneta, a medieval town near Latina, 76 km south of Rome and 24 km from the sea. The combination of a community life and a peaceful environment is ideal for study and for rich social and artistic interaction. Partecipation also brings with it pofessional opportunities. Students who reach the requisite standard may be invited to take part in the concerts of the Pontino Festival, the Campus's season Un'Orchestra a Teatro of Latina, and the concerts of the Gianicolo in Rome; and their names may be referred to other concert organisers.

Participants may attend the courses as either Active Students or Auditors. Post-graduate musicians aged under 35, who have successfully auditioned on the first day of each course, may participate as Active Students. In applying, candidates should indicate the pieces they wish to study during their course and bring with them the relevant music as well as a music stand. The number of Active Students on  each course is limited. Those failing the audition may attend the lessons as Auditors. All students are given an admittance card, entitling them to enter the Castle and to attend the Festival concerts, free of charge, subject to seating capacity. Fondazione Campus Internazionale di Musica have plesure in encourages the study and preparation of short "musical pieces" for solo instruments (cello, viola) by composers Goffredo Petrassi, Fausto Razzi, Luis de Pablo, Barbara Giuranna, Gino Contilli. Interested students attending the Courses can obtain copies of the music from the Campus secretary.

A certificate of attendance will be given to each Active Students who has successfully completed the entire course.

For purposes of accomodation Active Students have priority over Auditors. It is not possible to book rooms in advance. As the Castle is an historic museum, it is open to public visits and for academic purposes.  Guests must, therefore, respect the location and sign up to the house rules at the beginning of the course. Third parties may not enter the Castle without advance notice to and authorization by the Campus secretariat. They are not permitted to stay overnight. Because of the location of the Castle, guests are advised to bring suitable footwear.

They must, within 8 days of entring Italy, present themselves to the Foreign Department of the Police Headquarters (Questura) to obtain the required residential permit forstudy purposes.
